The Lebanese saint has become widely known as a miraculous intercessor on countless occasions.

Throughout history God has chosen certain individuals to work stunning miracles that reveal his great power and love for all of humanity. Among them, St. Charbel Makhlouf has proven time and time again to be a powerful intercessor through whom God desires to reveal his healing touch.

He was a humble and holy hermit whose weaknesses became great strengths in the hand of God.

Charbel was born in 1828 in Lebanon and was raised in a poor shepherd family. As he grew, Charbel was attracted to the hermit’s life of the desert and eventually entered the Monastery of St. Maron in Annaya. He was faithful to his duties in religious life and drew closer to God every day. After many years Charbel felt God calling him again to become a hermit and was granted permission to live the rest of his life at a hermitage set on a hill near the monastery.

Charbel died on Christmas Eve at the age of 70, and when his body was later exhumed it was found to be incorrupt. A holy oil was discovered flowing from the tomb, which has since been the source of numerous miracles.

For example, a blind woman from Arizona was healed in 2016 after venerating the relics of St. Charbel. The medical committee investigating the miracle admitted, “We have no medical explanation and therefore believe this to be a miraculous healing through the intercession of St. Charbel.”

In France, a baby boy was destined to die, so the family used some oil from St. Charbel’s tomb and prayed a novena to St. Charbel for a miraculous healing. According to the family, “The doctors told us that he would sleep more and more and eat less and less. Instead, he was becoming increasingly alert and continued to drink his bottles in small doses. At the end of September, Côme was evaluated again. To our joy and to the astonishment of the doctors, his condition had improved so much that it was determined he would live … The Blessed Virgin and St. Charbel protected him.”

There are many more miracles reported on this website dedicated to St. Charbel, proving that God enjoys working miracles through this humble Lebanese saint.

While we are never “guaranteed” a miracle when praying to God through a saint, the process can often transform our hearts and help us be prepared for whatever plan God has designed.

Here is the one novena (usually prayed for nine consecutive days) to St. Charbel that many turn to in their time of need.

Lord, infinitely Holy and Glorified in Your Saints,
You have inspired Charbel, the saint monk,
to lead the perfect life of a hermit.
We thank You for granting him the blessing
and the strength to detach himself from the world
so that the heroism of the monastic virtues of poverty,
    obedience, and chastity,
    could triumph in his hermitage.
We beseech You to grant us
the grace of loving and serving You,
    following his example.
    Almighty God, Who has manifested
the power of St. Charbel’s intercession
through his countless miracles and favours,
    grant us …

    [Mention your intention here]

    through his intercession.

    Amen.

  • An amazing story of a lady who obeyed the request of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

On October 8 & 9, 1859 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared 3 times to Adele Brise, who was born in Belgium in 1831, in Champion, Wisconsin, USA, and told her, "I am the Queen of Heaven, I pray for the salvation of sinners and I want you to do the same. Gather the children of this wild country and teach them what they should know about the way of salvation."

At the time of the apparition Adele was 28 years old, and she devoted the rest of her life to teaching children. At first she traveled by foot from house to house, and later she began a small school.

Some other women joined her in this work and they formed a community of sisters according to the rule of the Third Order Franciscans, although Adele Brise never took public vows as a nun.

She died faithfully fulfilling the request of the Blessed Virgin Mary on July 5, 1896 at age 65.

In December 8, 2010, this is the first Marian apparition which is being duly approved by the Catholic Church of USA.

  • In year 452 AD, apparitions of St. Peter and St. Paul, in Rome, who were flying up in the sky with drawn swords!

November 10th: Feast of St. Leo the Great. One of the greatest defenders of the Catholic faith against heretical teachings. During his era, Europe was ravaged by the barbarous attacks by Attila the Hun, known as the scourge of God, he not only pillaged and mercilessly destroyed towns and cities but he killed hundred thousands of people in places where he conquered with his great hordes of expert cavalry men.

In year 452 AD, this infamous evil man met a great holy man of God. When he was about to attack Rome, Pope Leo sent an emissary to him for a peaceful surrender so he would not destroy Rome and its people.

Pope Leo bravely met the invading barbaric armies of Attila in the boundaries of Rome. When Attila was about to meet Pope Leo, he was very horrified to see St. Peter and St. Paul flying up in the sky with drawn swords!

This scenario led Attila to withdraw his plans to attack Rome for good. Rome was saved by the bravery of Pope Leo the Great and by the apparitions of St. Peter and St. Paul. This scenario is being immortalised by the huge and famous painting by Raphael being attached.

  • The great significance why we should have devotion to the Saints in Heaven.

When I was young, I heard from older people to christen a new born baby after the name of the Saint based upon the Catholic Almanac of Saints. According to them, again, if we follow this formula the child will become successful someday as the child will go older as he/she would have a powerful Saint in heaven who would always guard, guide and protect him/her.

I started my research today for famous people who are born in November 4th and are being named after the Patron Saint of this day who is Saint Charles or Carlos or Karl Borromeo.

Let us see my amazing findings:

    1. Carlos P. Garcia, 8th President of the Philippines. d. 1971.
    2. Carlos A. Lopez, President of Paraguay, 1844-1862.
    3. Carlos C. Armas, President of Guatemala. d. 1957
    4. Carlo Manelli, Italian Composer, d. 1697
    5. Karel Komzak, Czech Composer and Musician, d. 1893
    6. Karl Tausig, Polish Pianist and Composer, d. 1871
    7. Carolina Otero, Spanish Actress and Singer, d. 1965.
    8. Carlos Pellicer, Mexican Poet and Museum Director
    9. Charles Frazier, American author.
    10. Charles Gutierrez, American Politician.
    11. Charles Baegra, Puerto Rican / American Athlete.
    12. Charles Kenneth Williams, American Poet and year 2000 Pulitzer Literary Winner.

Now we know one of the rules of success as followed by the Catholic parents of the above named famous persons. Name matters. As the famous saying goes, "Now a name, tomorrow a legend!"

Next time, you will have a little Infant, remember the name of the Saint of the child's natal day. If you want your child to be successful someday with great certainty, why not name the child after the Saint?

  • Meet this great man whose great administative talent is being admired by the world and in ages to come.

God out of his great benevolence, sent to the world a prodigious child to counter Martin Luther's protestant reformation movement.

This very humble child was Charles Borromeo. A member of the powerful Medici Clan of Italy. Though born with speech impediment, he was gifted with mental prowess which amazed everyone who know him.

At 12 years of age, he decided to devote his entire life to serve the Catholic church. At age 21, he got his 2 doctorate degrees of Canon and Civil Laws. At age 23, his uncle was elected Pope Pius IV, who immediately appointed him a Cardinal and the Secretary of State, thus he became a member of the powerful Curia (College of Cardinals) at a very young age.

Though a Cardinal, he obliged the member of the Curia to live simply and to wear black. He himself walk around barefoot !! He was appointed as supervisor of the influential Carmelites, Franciscan Orders and the Knights of Malta. He was entrusted with both public and privy ecclesiastical states. He was also appointed as Archbishop and administrator of the Archdiocese of Milan, once the biggest in Italy with 3,000 clerics to oversee and with 800,000 parishioners.

Under his care, Milan was ravaged by famine and plague. Many leaders abandoned their office and fled. Charles, remained with bravery and personally helped fed 70,000 people who were affected this calamity.

He was tasked by the Pope the convocation of the Council of Trent to counter the new protestant reformation movement led by Martin Luther. He strictly oversee the strict implementation of the teachings of this Council including the stoppage of the abused selling of indulgences - the main agenda of Luther.

He was tasked also to make the first Catechism of the Catholic Church. He is one of the 4 authors of this famous handbook.

The new Pope and uncle relied very heavily upon him in administering the Church. His voluminous writings and correspondence shows his great literary prowess and influential position in Europe during lifetime. Popes under he served always sought his witty advice. Catholic rulers of Europe like Henry III of France, Philip II of Spain, Mary Queen of Scots, and many more showed how they greatly valued his learning and influence.

Due to stress and fatigue, he died young at age 46. Cardinal Valerio of Verona says of him, "to the well born pattern of virtue, to his brother Cardinals he is an example of true nobility." Cardinal Baronious says of him, " (He is) a second Ambrose. His untimely death is greatly lamented by all good men, inflicted greatly the church."

Years later, after confirmed miracles through his intercessions, he was declared a Saint and today, Nov. 4th, is his feast day. Many places, cities, towns, streets, hospitals, universities, seminaries, infants are named after either by his first name or family name. His legend still continues till the end of time.

Saint Charles Borromeo, pray for us !

  • To keep walking is one of the secrets of a joyful and healthy life.

Walking is excellent for our mental health: this will keep the renegeration of the cells of our brain and walking would relieve us from sadness and stress. Walking keeps us to live longer and happier !

This will trigger the release of endorphins, the hormone which is very responsible to make us in a joyful and relaxed mood; walking will reduce the release of cortisol, the dangerous hormone that would make us feel stressed and depressed.

So from now on keep on walking everyday. I have two very old but youthful retired male married Irish friends whose hobby is walking. One is 90 years old and the other is 83 years of age.

Though advanced in age but they are terrific walkers of hundreds of kilometers a week; rain or shine, they walk very fast! They love long distance walking as their hobby and this is their great secret of long youthful life and healthy living - as they are both Catholics, they pray while they keep on walking in the valleys or in the mountains. They are silently whispering the Holy Rosary while walking ! They always walk with God!

  • God through the powerful intercession of St Joseph amazingly answered the ceaseless prayers of a pregnant wife.

A devout Catholic pregnant wife had a great devotion to Saint Joseph the foster father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

She prayed to God through the intercession of St. Joseph for the success of her endeavors especially for a normal delivery and blessings of the baby she was conceiving.

Her baby turned out to be a boy and was born on the feast day of Saint Joseph on March 19, 1950.

Out of her great and pious devotion to St. Joseph, she christened her son Jose. Through the years she has been praying for the success and good health of her son.

As years passed by, her son decided to be a priest which she consented with joy and ceaseless prayers. Being a brilliant guy, her son rose through the ranks in the Catholic Church hierarchy.

Now, her son is the current Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu City. He replaced late Ricardo Cardinal Vidal who passed recently.

The name of her brilliant and successful son is Archbishop Jose S. Palma.

Has not St. Teresa of Avila, a mystic and Doctor of the Church, left it written in her dialogues or books that the whole world may know, "Whatever we ask of Saint Joseph, we shall receive!"

God's infinite mercy has heard the ceaseless prayers / petitions of this good mother which she asked to God through the effective and powerful intercession of St. Joseph.

Next time, to make our endeavors a success, never fail to ask the powerful help and intercession of St. Joseph.

    Saint Joseph, pray for us.

  • October 28th: Feast Day of Saint Jude Thaddeus the Apostle. Cousin of our Lord Jesus Christ and the mighty Patron of Impossible and Hopeless Causes.

Sacred Tradition says that angels appeared to console St Jude who was terribly crying about the failure of his apostolic mission in far away foreign land. The angels declared to him, "Don't worry Jude! God heard your pious prayers. From now on, God promised to help all devotees who would ask for your help and intercession!"

Moreover, he is portrayed carrying a painting of the true face of our Lord Jesus Christ which is being requested by King Abgar with leprosy in Edessa, Asia Minor (now Turkey). King Abgar was totally healed upon touching this painting. This famous painting is now called as the "Icon of Edessa."

Attached is an old postcard size 3D picture of Saint Jude Thaddeus. Whose feast day we celebrate today - October 28th. I accidentally found this picture (owned by previous occupant) in my rented boarding house the very day I had to vacate it in October 1984.

I was still a 23 yr old bachelor then. I brought this picture with me and prayed for good blessings as I promised to bring this picture where ever I live. I let priests to bless this picture to make this a holy sacramental thing. 3 months after I found this picture, I landed an excellent permanent job in National Steel Corporation, Iligan City. I held this job until July 2010.

Since 1984, I have touched this picture almost everyday for the past 35 years !!! I have brought this with me in 7 different houses where I lived since 1984.

This is one of the first important things I brought with me when I transferred in my newly built own house in Iligan City at age 28. Now, I brought this picture in Ireland with me with high hopes that this would again give many blessings to my family like what I experienced in the Philippines.

My wife and I have visited and prayed on his grave in St. Peter's Basilica, on June 8, 2016, during our unplanned 30th wedding anniversary holidays in Rome.

St. Jude Thaddeus, Patron Saint of the Impossible and Hopeless Causes, pray for us ! Thank you for everything.
